What is Creative Healing?

Updated: Feb 20, 2023

Think about when you are doing something creative, anything at all. What else is in your mind at that time? Are you thinking of your symptoms, focusing on pain, how fatigued you may be, negatively analysing yourself?

No! You aren’t!

You’re focused on the task at hand, you’re enjoying yourself. You may even feel proud of what you’re doing, perhaps there’s a flicker of positivity and praise in your mind.

This is the healing.

Being creative helps your mind to focus on something outside of yourself. How can you think about all those awful symptoms or listen to that inner self-deprecating voice? They may still be there, and yes, you might still think about those symptoms sometimes. But, most of the time you’re free from all that.

What happens after you finish? Your body and mind have had a rest from the constant barrage of symptoms, feeling much better than before.

THIS is the healing!

Creativity can be anything! Anything where you’re focused, using your hands and brain, and relaxed. Okay, sometimes the project you’re working on can be a bit stressful but this too takes your focus away from symptoms. The stress is good stress, working things out and fixing problems is so rewarding and healing.

Creative healing is real, powerful healing. It’s expressive, freeing, and triggers the parasympathetic nervous system releasing cortisol and other hormones responsible for relaxing and calming the body and mind.
